Ten convicted of digital abuse directed at Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for perpetrating the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced allegations of circulating fabrications regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the couple's age disparity of 24 years.
The court issued conditional custodial sentences of up to eight months to the convicted individuals. The full ruling has still to be made public.
A circulating conspiracy theory claiming that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has existed since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France comes as the Macrons engaging in a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced comparable unfounded claims about the French president's wife's identity.
Their legal filing alleges that Owens ignored substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions opting to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has often echoed these claims on her podcast and social networks, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her current spouse when she was a teacher at his high school.
The two tied the knot in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
